Linen has been sought after for millennia for its rich, lustrous character that many cultures in the ancient world considered Godly or divine. The Egyptians referred to linen as "woven moonlight" because of the fabric's soft, luminous finish. In the old world, linen signified royalty, wealth, and spiritual cleanliness. Given linen's natural, plant-derived purity, the priests of Babylon were instructed to wear only pure linen robes within the temple and other sacred spaces.

Linen possess excellent wear characteristics. Perhaps because flax can only be grown in colder regions, linen possesses cooling properties that make it ideal for warm-weather wear.
